The Missouri Broadcasters Association recognized KGCS-TV at the 2016 annual media awards banquet with a Certificate of Merit for Station Sponsored Community Event. The award was given in recognition of work done by the station for the annual Southern Media Showcase competition and program.
Alex Bryant, a junior mass communication major from Joplin, is among students from around the state receiving scholarships from the Missouri Broadcasters Association and the MBA Foundation. Bryant was nominated for the scholarship by KGCS-TV, where he has been involved in many productions and activities.

KGCS-TV received state-wide recognition when the Missouri State Teachers Association presented KGCS-TV with an Honorable Mention award for General Coverage for outstanding reporting of news in education. The 2015 award was presented at an awards dinner in Fall 2015.

Zachary Dodge, a mass communication major at KGCS-TV, received a scholarship from the Missouri Broadcasters Association for the 2015-2016 academic year. The award was presented at the annual MBA convention and awards program in June.
Students from KGCS-TV in the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University are being recognized for their work by the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association. The state-wide competition features works by college broadcast students from across the state of Missouri. The awards include two first-place honors and three honorable mentions:
College Broadcasters Inc. recognized a Public Service Announcement produced by KGCS-TV as a television finalist in the Best Public Service Announcement category of the 2013 competition. The PSA, "National Alliance on Mental Illness" was voiced by Kristen Hanna.
