Freshman Students (0-29 credit hours)

Introductory Goals

  • Develop a sense of belonging through friendships and campus involvement
  • Connect with a MSSU faculty or staff member who cares about your individual success
  • Get to know your academic advisor
  • Create the first two years of your 4-year plan using DegreeWorks (degree evaluation) with your advisor
  • Begin to work on the general education courses
  • Become familiar with LIONET (student portal)
  • Consider taking UE 105 Career and Life Planning to explore different majors
  • Take the University Experience Class-freshman seminar
  • Engage in Learning both by devoting enough time to your studies and by thinking about source material and how it applies to your life

Ongoing Benchmarks

  • Be an engaged, active learner
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher (check major-specific GPA requirements)
  • Complete an average of 15 hours a semester (if on a 4 year plan)
  • Know your degree requirements and track your progress
  • Know university deadlines for enrollment and payment
  • Create a financial plan and maintain financial aid eligibility
  • Use campus resources and ask for help when you need it
  • Become involved actively in at least one co-curricular or social activity
