Aspects of Wellness

Definitions

Career Wellbeing

Career Wellbeing is defined as how you occupy your time, or simply liking what you do every day. The influence of career wellbeing on our overall wellbeing is often underestimated. We spend the majority of our waking hours during the week doing something we consider a career, occupation, vocation, or job. Often, one of the first questions upon meeting a new person is, “what do you do?” If you don’t have the opportunity to regularly do something you enjoy, the odds of your having high wellbeing in other areas diminish rapidly, and people with high Career Wellbeing are twice as likely to be thriving in their lives overall.

Financial Wellbeing

Financial Wellbeing means are you effectively managing your economic life. Financial security has much more influence on a person’s overall wellbeing than their income alone. Financial stability means different things to different employees. For a millennial, it could mean effectively managing student debt. For a pre-retiree, it could mean retirement readiness. Interestingly, at almost every level of income, experiential purchases produce a higher level of wellbeing than material purchases; material items fade, but a person can relive experiences forever.

Physical Wellbeing

Being Physically Well means having good enough health, and enough energy to do what you want to every day. With thriving physical wellbeing, a person looks better, feels better, and lives longer.

Social Wellbeing

Social Wellbeing is defined as having strong relationships and love in your life. Social wellbeing is strongly influenced by a person’s closest relationships and social connections. For each hour of social time (up to six) a person experiences in given day, their odds of having a good day increase and odds of having a bad day decrease when looking at the percent chance of having a lot of enjoyment/happiness and percent chance of having a lot of stress and worry

Community Wellbeing

Community Wellbeing is a sense of engagement you have within the area where you live. Does a person take pride in their community? The positive outcomes of a thriving Community Wellbeing might be the difference between having a good life and a great one. For example, volunteering not only benefits society and improves a person’s Community Wellbeing, but it also increase their learning and interest level throughout the day.

Emotional Wellbeing

Being Emotionally Well means having good enough health, and enough mental energy to get important things done every day. With thriving emotional wellbeing, a person looks better, feels better, and lives longer.
