Why I Give - Michelle Ramirez

Michelle Ramirez is giving back to the sport that gave so much to her. Having competed on the Missouri Southern Track and Field and Cross Country teams for three years, she wanted to support current and future student athletes by donating to the Winged Foot Club, an alumni-driven fund that provides competition needs such as equipment and travel.

“Some of my fondest memories of cross country and track are the lifelong friendships that it has created for me,” said Ramirez. “I still keep in close contact with many of the athletes that I attended college with during my years at Missouri Southern.”

In addition to athletics, Ramirez had the opportunity to study abroad in countries like England and Italy. She ended up training with a variety of people, learning how to work with others from different backgrounds and cultures.

“Studying abroad taught me how to motivate people, talk to them, and to best understand working with them. These are hard to learn in school.”

Ramirez continued to apply these lifelong skills after graduating from MSSU in December 2005 with two bachelor’s degrees in Management and Accounting. Since then, Ramirez has earned two master’s degrees and is currently the director of Revenue Cycle Support Services for a children’s hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas where she lives with her husband Philip. She credits her time on the team to helping her succeed.

“Athletics made me disciplined, hardworking, and responsible,” said Ramirez. “It has strengthened my employment opportunities.”

Ramirez says giving to the Winged Foot Club means continuing to support current and future MSSU student athletes with their educational and athletic goals.

“It’s important to continue the legacy of the track and field and cross country teams at MSSU by supporting our athletes and coaches.”
