Russ Alcorn, a ‘77 graduate of Missouri Southern State University, earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Finance from the Plaster School of Business.
Russ’s professional journey led him to become one of the first 2,500 representatives for Edward Jones, showcasing his pioneering spirit and expertise. After a successful career, he passed the reins of his business to his son, ensuring the continuation of his legacy of excellence.
Throughout his career, Russ has maintained a strong connection with Missouri Southern through various roles, including serving as a past member of the Alumni Board and as an adjunct faculty member in the College of Business. His dedication to the university is further demonstrated by his current role on the Foundation Board, where he contributes to the Investment Committee.
In recognition of the profound impact Missouri Southern had on his life, Russ, along with his wife Suzy, has made a generous six-figure commitment to fund several Russ & Suzy Alcorn Scholarships. Alcorn’s gifts are a combination of current and estate gift commitments. “We support MSSU because education is the foundational tool for the success of individuals and our community. The affordable education I received at MSSU not only gave me a strong start in my career but also supported me throughout my entire professional journey. Now, more than ever, it’s time to give back and help the next generations succeed. We all benefit from it,” says Russ.
The Lions Forward Campaign is dedicated to fostering a bright future on campus for our students. The overarching goal of the campaign is to elevate student success opportunities through three strategic areas: Enhancing the student experience, fostering academic excellence, and building the campus of the future.
This campaign will provide a plethora of new student opportunities that will enrich their academic experience, and consequently, attract new students to our university for years to come. Funds will be invested heavily into new student scholarships, new student-focused spaces, and the construction of a new Health Science Innovation Center.
