June 2021, Dr. Melvyn and Mrs. Donna Mosher collection donated 17 Inuit carved pieces and two African art carvings to the Department of Art & Design. Then, in April 2024, Dr. Richard and Mrs. Debbie Reed donated 5 Inuit carved pieces.
In conjunction with the 2024 Canada Themed Semester, the Department of Art & Design is setting up a permanent display near the Department of Social Sciences.
Senior B.A. of Visual Arts major Skyler Smith, from Seneca, MO, researched, catalogued and created informational text panels that will be displayed with the collection.
According to Frank Pishkur, chair of the Department of Art & Design, “Firsthand study and examination of art and artifacts is always a richer, more immersive way to learn than through the study of photographs. The permanent display of these works in Webster allows easy access to both the Anthropology classes and art students.”
