Beverly Block Provides Gift for Student Scholarships and Plaster School of Business

Beverly Block was hired to teach at Missouri Southern in the spring of 1984 while finishing her degree at the University of Arkansas. She began her career at Southern in August 1984. When recounting her transition to MSSU, she recalls “Joplin and Southern were a good fit for me.” Although Beverly had several administrative roles at Southern, she stated that teaching was her “fav.”

Although Beverly is now retired, she is an adjunct and teaches one or two classes per semester for the Plaster School of Business.

“I love Missouri Southern; it has been my second home for many years” says Beverly. “I’ve worked with good people. I like the students. My goal has always been to help students learn so they have the tools to succeed. I want them to say that Missouri Southern played a big part in their success. The need for philanthropy is why I decided years ago to be a donor and support the university.”

Beverly’s husband Ken has always been supportive of Beverly throughout her career. The Block’s have recently made a major gift in support of both the Beverly Culwell Block Scholarship and the Plaster School of Business.

The Lions Forward Campaign is dedicated to fostering a bright future on campus for our students. The overarching goal of the campaign is to elevate student success opportunities through three strategic areas: Enhancing the student experience, fostering academic excellence, and building the campus of the future.

This campaign will provide a plethora of new student opportunities that will enrich their academic experience, and consequently, attract new students to our university for years to come. Funds will be invested heavily into new student scholarships, new student-focused spaces, and the construction of a new Health Science Innovation Center.

“The impact of a successful campaign will be nothing short of transformational,” says Dr. Dean Van Galen, president of Missouri Southern New student scholarships, facilities, and programs that support student success will lead to higher levels of student achievement.”
