The MSSU Chapter of The Wildlife Society is asking for support to help house rare and endangered animals to campus! Currently, MSSU is home to several species that are Federally protected under the Endangered Species Act as well of others that are listed as Critically Endangered under the IUCN's Red List for Threatened Species. Our goal is to purchase a professional housing system for various reptiles and amphibians. Currently, we are seeking $20,000 in support to purchase 5 large enclosures that can safely and securely house snakes, tortoises, and lizards in the hallways of Reynolds Hall on campus at MSSU. These cages would allow us to showcase animals that are rarely, if ever, seen by the public, while also allowing each animal the necessary room to explore and behave naturally. With these cages, students will gain invaluable hands-on experience with some of the rarest animals alive today. The public can come and see animals often only seen at larger zoos! Further, these animals will have all the necessary environments and support to breed and behave naturally, furthering their conservation efforts!
