Lori Pflug was an active member of the Joplin Community for many years, graduating form Parkwood High School and Missouri Southern State University (MSSU). In the spring of 2005, she was hired by Mercy St. John’s SportsCare, three weeks after she was hired she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away within a year. In order to keep her memory and dream alive, Mercy SportsCare established a scholarship fund in Lori’s name. The money raised through this event is awarded to MSSU students pursuing a career in sports medicine.
The event is completely planned and run by MSSU students majoring in Sport and Recreation Management and Exercise Science as part of their practicum requirement.
