The EMT course is offered in the fall and spring semester. The Paramedic Program meets through three semesters, beginning each fall semester and concluding after the summer semester.
The EMT course will accept 24 students each semester. The Paramedic Program will accept 24 students each year.
Acceptance is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applicants with a complete application packet and fulfilling all requirements will be conditionally admitted to the program, contingent upon successful completion of a drug screening, background check, and attendance at orientation. You are encouraged to submit all application materials as soon as possible, as you are not conditionally accepted until all items are received.
A waiting list will be maintained when a course is closed. You will be notified by email of waiting list status.
Advisor
The Director of EMS advises all students that have applied to a program, are currently enrolled in a program, or have declared the Health Science-Paramedic degree as their major.
You may schedule an appointment with your advisor by contacting the department secretary located in the Health Sciences Building, room 325 or by calling 417-625-9848.
A registration schedule will be available to students in advance of pre-registration. Students will be pre-registered based on class designation (senior, junior, sophomore, freshman, transfer). Appointments should be made with the academic advisor to discuss courses and scheduling.
Prior to the advising appointment, students should look at the online, open course list and their CAPP. Students should bring a proposed schedule to their advising appointment.
COURSES, DEGREES, AND PREREQUISITES
Yes! You may complete an application for the department at any time. However, to be registered for classes, you must apply and be accepted to MSSU.
There are no prerequisite courses for the EMT program. Prerequisites for the Paramedic Program is passing a EMT course and successfully passing of the NREMT Conitive and Physcomotor exams.
You may complete the application paperwork at any time during your course of study. However, all prerequisite coursework must be completed in order to begin the EMS program.
Financial Aid
Financial Aid is available to students based on eligibility through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process. This application should be completed by April 1 for the upcoming academic year. Please speak with your academic advisor for specific questions about program eligibility.
The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Assistance in completing this application and other financial aid questions is available in the MSSU Financial Aid Office located in Hearnes Hall.
Tuition and university costs will be assessed based on credit hour enrollment. There are special course costs are assessed for EMT and Paramedic courses. See Estimated Cost Sheet.
