The College of Health Science and Department of Emergency Medical Services offers a certificate program preparing students to challenge the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination at the Advanced EMT level. The program is closely integrated with area Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Centers. Classroom instruction is supplemented by prescribed laboratory, clinical and field experiences, including:
- Meets through one semester, beginning each fall and spring semester
- Meets for (2) 4-hour class sessions each week, with two pre-scheduled Saturday sessions
- Approx. 248 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction
- (2) 8-hour skill intensive Saturday session. Saturdays include simulations and scenarios with moulage patients, extrication, and skill practice.
- 36 hours of clinical rotations in area Emergency Departments
- 60 hours onboard an Advanced Life Support Ambulance
The program meets all requirements of the National EMS Education Standards maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Department of EMS has the full approval as a training entity for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the Missouri Unit of Emergency Medical Services.
