88.7KXMS, which operates out of studios located at Missouri Southern State University, provides students with paid employment or for-credit work experience within a professional broadcast environment. KXMS is the only radio station in the Joplin, Missouri market primarily managed and run by university students.
88.7KXMS is affiliated with WCPE, a listener-supported, non-commercial, non-profit radio station, and the program contributor for The Classical Station, a classical music network.
Among its local programming, KXMS offers popular music, classical recordings, film scores/Broadway music, and Missouri Southern Live! and other periodic public affairs programming.
Over the years, 88.7KXMS has bestowed Awards given by the Klassix Society, the Friends of KXMS. These have included a producer's award for excellence in music education via radio and a lifetime achievement award honoring the body of work of prominent artists in the fields of radio and music.
Opportunities for students to learn more about the radio station and the radio profession are available from the first semester of your freshman year and continue through your full four-years at Missouri Southern.
