Student Organizations

Student Organizations

Students are busy with classes, homework, work, family, and other commitments. So why should students join a student organization?

  1. Gain networking opportunities by meeting other students, alumni, and industry professionals.
  2. Gain a sense of community by meeting other students and enjoying social interaction or talking about important issues with like-minded individuals.
  3. Gain experience in teamwork as student members collaborate to accomplish club/organizational goals for the year.
  4. Build leadership skills by becoming an officer in an organization
  5. Build your resume by showing employers that you can handle multiple responsibilities and are serious about your professional development.
  6. Have fun with friends and peers outside of the classroom!

Below is a list of business-oriented student organizations.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – MSSU Student Chapter

Faculty Advisor: Dr. Sarah Holtzen holtzen-s@mssu.edu

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) represents the gold standard in human resource management today (www.shrm.org). The student chapter at Missouri Southern allows you to connect with peers on campus who are interested in HR, as well as a network of over 200 student chapters and 575 professional chapters nationwide. We work closely with our professional chapter affiliate, the Tri-State Human Resources Association (TSHRA), to provide students with the option to transfer to professional membership upon graduation. The HR emphasis at MSSU is academically aligned with the quality standards of SHRM, allowing our student members to sit early for the SHRM Certified Professional (CP) exam.

Our club hosts monthly guest speaker events focused on bringing in MSSU graduates who have worked to develop successful HR careers. The club is student-driven, and we focus on a different aspect of HR each semester as selected by club members. We also have many opportunities for community and campus involvement, as well as leadership positions through our Executive Committee (2.0+ GPA required for officer positions).
