About The Degree:
A minor in American Studies can be of great use to students majoring in related (or even non-related) academic areas. This minor focuses on the history , political science, geography and even the literature and geography of the United States. A total of 21 credits are required.
What You'll Learn:
- A broad understanding of U.S. history from 1492 to present.
- Extensive knowledge of particular periods in American history, including The American West, the History of Native Americans, Missouri History, The Gilded Age, the Vietnam Era, Politics and Constitutional Law.
- The ability to research and present never-before-recorded knowledge of the United States or a historical problem of special interest to you.
This Degree is Great for You if:
- You are interested in historical research in the Americas
- You want to work in a field in which a knowledge of U.S. history is a definite plus -- such as journalism or any of the liberal arts.
- You're interested in graduate programs in another area or are headed for law school.
