The Department of Performing Arts is housed in the MSSU Fine Arts Complex that is comprised of a portion of the Fine Arts Building (FA) and Taylor Performing Arts Center (TPAC).
The Bud Walton Black Box Theatre, named for the brother of Walmart founder Sam Walton, was opened in 1999 as a replacement for MSSU’s Barn Theatre, that was destroyed by fire in 1990. This theatre is a unique, flexible space where lighting, sets, and seating can be moved in any fashion to fit the performance—debuted its first production in October of 1999.

Corley Auditorium, named for Joplin businessman and generous MSSU benefactor, W. Robert Corley, is a hall suitable for solo and small ensemble performances. This attractive venue hosts most of our student, faculty, small ensemble, and guest recitals. It is located in Webster Hall, just a few steps from the Fine Arts Building.

In 1976, Taylor Auditorium was built— named, and dedicated to the memory of a member of the original Board of Trustees of Missouri Southern State College, Thomas E. Taylor. Taylor Auditorium is the region's largest concert and theatrical venue. Equipped with an orchestra pit and an acoustic shell, this versatile hall has played host to the finest ensembles, symphony orchestras, opera and musical theatre productions and President Obama in 2011. This wonderful venue is the performance home of the Department of Performing Arts.

E.S. Phinney Hall, named for former MSSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, is the primary rehearsal hall for the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Southern Symphony Orchestra, Southern Jazz Orchestra and the Jazz Combos.
