Yes, students intending to study in the IEP must first apply and be admitted to Missouri Southern State University. Applying to MSSU is easy and can be completed online.
No matter where you are located, you can apply online to Missouri Southern State University. You can find more information on our website.
It typically takes students 2-4 semesters to complete their studies in the IEP. Of course, some students are able to make progress more quickly, while others need more time. Students must meet MSSU’s English proficiency requirements in order to complete the IEP and become degree-seeking.
IEP courses run concurrently with all other courses at MSSU. Each course is 16 weeks long. The fall semester begins in mid-August and finishes in early December. The spring semester begins mid-January and ends in early May.
Students demonstrating an advanced proficiency in English are able to enroll in both IEP and regular (degree-seeking) courses if they score within the Advanced score range on an accepted English proficiency test like the Michigan EPT, the IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo.
Currently, IEP students have access to the Student Success Center (located on the 3rd floor of Hearnes Hall), where tutoring is available.
Conversation Partners are American Student Volunteers who spend time with International Students to provide practice with Conversational English. We do our best to connect every IEP student with a Conversation Partner, however, availability is not guaranteed.
