As a community outreach program, the MSSU Department of Art and Design annually hosts a day of workshops for high school art students each fall semester (typically on the Friday after our fall break). The workshops are project driven, hands-on, college level art experiences that showcase and expose students to a variety of media, studios and techniques they otherwise may not have access to at their schools. High school students select workshops for the day that get them into our university studios and classrooms with our instructors and faculty.
These workshops have limited seating so students must be pre-registered to participate. Registration is available on a first-come-first-serve-basis. Because of the limited seating we cannot always accommodate large groups. All workshops are free for high school juniors and seniors with tuition and materials provided by MSSU. Lunch, a campus tour and an attendance note for the participant’s high school attendance office are also provided.
While our workshops are specifically geared toward junior and seniors, any high school student recommended by a teacher and actively interested in art is qualified to participate. They are welcome to attend individually or as a school group.
Students are able to connect with other artists, enhance their artistic ability, expand their knowledge of techniques, experience different media, and be creatively inspired. You’ll learn from and create art alongside MSSU Art Education students and our faculty of professional artists and designers.
Admission is based on teacher recommendation and space available.
