Bounce Animation
In this workshop, students create a 2D animation of a bouncing ball using Digital Animation tools. This animation is one of the first exercises that professional animators learn. In this session, students learn about timing, exaggeration, squash, and stretch in animation. At the end of the workshop, they get a video file of their animation that they can easily share online and show on other platforms or devices. Instructor: Elmira Bagherzadeh
Felted Bag:
This workshop will use multiple colors of fiber made from alpaca wool to allow each participant to create a design of their choice with the technique of needle felting. The felted image will then be made into a small pouch/bag using a whipstitch with multicolored threads of choice and a button. Participants will be able to complete a usable item during the workshop that has a hand designed element of beauty using natural fibers. Instructor: Amber Mintert
Fused Glass Jewelry Pendants:
Learn how to create one-of-a-kind fused glass pendants. Students will use the elements of design: color, texture, space and the principles of design: balance, rhythm, variety and unity to help create dynamic designs. In this fast paced, exciting class, students will learn to cut, grind, clean, glue and arrange fusing glass into several layers that will melt and fuse in the kiln. The pendants can be picked up the following week. Instructor: Jessica Sellers
Intro to Oil Painting:
Students will experiment with oil painting to learn about basic techniques. The goal is to provide a baseline knowledge so that students can confidently and safely explore oil painting on their own. Instructor: Kyle McKenzie
Majolica Painting:
Learn the historically rich and colorful ceramic technique of majolica glazing (painting overglaze), a process where colorful imagery is painted over a white-but-not-fired-glaze surface. This technique is somewhat similar to watercolor painting on paper, allowing participants to treat the surface of the forms as a canvas. Participants are guided through developing imagery and transferring it onto pre-glazed bisque bowls and tiles. Fired work can be picked up the following week. Instructor: Frank A. Pishkur
Observational Drawing:
Students will learn the basic techniques and mechanics involved in observational drawing. We will cover the correct use of the Mondrian Tool (Relative Proportion, Angle Measuring, Intuitive Perspective), Drawing Grip, proper movement/set-up, and the Perceptual Grid. Students will execute a still life drawing employing this information. Instructor: Scott Murray
Typographic Portraits:
In this graphic design workshop, we will rediscover the fun and the creative side of letters by using their abstract forms and shapes in new ways. After learning the basics of typography and Adobe Illustrator, students recreate a famous portrait using letters and words rather than pencil marks or brush strokes. The final images might look realistic as the letters and words overlap, creating the textural qualities of hair and skin, or the images might be more abstract as a J becomes a nose and a B becomes an ear. Instructor: Ed Outhouse.
Watercolor Techniques:
The transparency of watercolor lends itself to a variety of painting techniques including glazes, washes, textures and more. Workshop students will explore this exciting, expressive medium with an expert watercolorist by your side. Instructor: Brenda Sageng
