ADC Application Process

ADC Application Process


  1. Contact ADC 
    • Schedule an appointment with an ADC Advisor by calling 417-625-9521 or emailing ADC@mssu.edu. 

  2. Application: Complete and submit your application to MSSU.  
    • Application Type: You will want to select New Student (if you never attended college); Former Student (if you have attended MSSU before and have not attended any other institutions); Transfer Student (if you have attended another college). 
    • Major: Select AD00—Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) as your major or another ADC Major Code if you have already completed your appointment with an ADC advisor. 
    • Fee Waiver: You can request an application fee waiver. Just type: “ADC—Dr. Mountz” after clicking “Request Fee Waiver.” 
       
  3. Transcripts 
    • High School Official Transcript: If you have not attended college, you will need to submit a copy of your official high school transcript to MSSU. You can do this by contacting your high school and request that an official transcript be delivered to Admissions@mssu.edu or Admissions, 3950 E. Newman Rd., Joplin, MO 64801. 
    • College Transcripts: If you have attended college before, submit your previous official college transcripts to MSSU. You can order transcripts from most institutions from the National Student Clearinghouse. If you are unable to find the school you attended on this site, you may have to visit the specific institution’s webpage to have your official transcript sent to MSSU. 
    • Joint Services Transcripts: If you are a veteran, active duty, or reserve duty, please submit a copy of your official JST to MSSU. JST’s can be requested from: JST: Joint Services Transcript, College Credit | Military OneSource 

  4. Resume 
    • Submit a copy of your resume to ADC@mssu.edu. Be sure to include Work Experience, Volunteer Experience, and any Licenses & Certifications. Your resume will be reviewed for potential college credit based on your learning from these experiences. 

  5.  Financial Aid 
    • FAFSA: Complete and submit your FAFSA to MSSU. The code for submitting your FAFSA to MSSU is—002488 
    • Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant: This state of Missouri grant is a program designed to provide adults with the education and skills needed to enter the workforce in fields that are in high demand. The grant is designed to cover the cost of tuition and fees for approved (high need) programs, when combined with other state and federal non-loan financial aid.     • MO Job Center: If you are interested in WIOA funding or other Workforce Investment Board educational funding opportunities, visit Missouri Workforce System | JobsMoGov to find your local MO Job Center and submit an application. 
    • MSLF Finish Line Degree Completion Grant: Past due balances owed to higher education institutions can be a major barrier for students who have left school. The Finish Line Degree Completion Grant complements institutional resources to help students re-enroll and complete their degrees. For information and to apply, visit FinishLineBrochure.pdf 
    • Scholarships—MSSU Foundation: Foundation Scholarships are privately funded awards donated to the university from a variety of sources. The selection of recipients are made during the Spring and Summer semesters by various committees on campus. Apply here: MSSU - Foundation Scholarships 
    • Scholarships—General: MSSU - Outside Scholarships  
    • Veterans Services: If you are a military service member, veteran, or dependent, visit MSSU - Veterans Services to learn more about how to utilize use VA or military education benefits.

      • MSSU Career Services: Link with employers, practice interviews, create a resume with the assistance of MSSU Career Services.  
      • MSSU Project Stay: If you are a first generation college student, you may qualify to be part of Project Stay, a federally-funded TRIO program that provides comprehensive resources for students as they complete their bachelor's degrees and transition to graduate school and professional life.  
      • MSSU Tutoring Services: Tutoring is available in writing, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, political science, sociology, psychology and other courses.

      • Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development: Helping every Missourian with the skills and education needed for success.  
      • Path2Help: A resource to help find public and private resources for individuals with service needs relating to addiction, healthcare, homelessness, and other barriers they may be facing. 
      • SkillUp: A free program provided by the Missouri Department of Social Services for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)recipients. SkillUp pairs participants with a state-sponsored coach to help them develop an individualized plan for education and career attainment.
