The Admissions Office will identify, recruit and admit qualified students who have the potential to succeed at our university.
Admissions decisions are based on policies established by the Board of Governors and are made in accordance with the recommendations of the Coordinating Board of Higher Education for the State of Missouri.
Missouri Southern State University does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, color, national origin, disability or age in its recruitment practices or admission of students.
In addition, the Admissions Office will serve the region by offering programs and services to inform the public of opportunities available in higher education.
Undergraduate students
Undergraduate students are seeking either an associate (2 year) or bachelor's (4 year) degree. Student types include:
- Freshman Whether you are a high school graduate, a home schooled student or taken the GED, if you have never attended college classes before you are considered a college freshman. If you earned college credit while still in high school, you are still entering college as a freshman.
- Transfer Students who have earned credit at another college or university, but wish to continue their education at MSSU, are considered transfer students.
- Readmit A student who has previously earned college credit at MSSU but sat out at least one term, is a student seeking readmission.

Graduate studies
- Missouri Southern is committed to responding to the educational needs of our constituents and community by offering you the chance to earn an advanced degree. Our Office of Graduate Programs currently presides over eight different Masters degree programs.
- Major areas include Business Administration, Teaching/Education, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Criminal Justice or History. Many of the graduate level courses are offered online for your convenience.

International students
- Students who are not current citizens or permanent residents of the United States are considered international students.
- MSSU has established partnerships with 16 universities worldwide to provide exchange opportunities for students.
