Spirit of Service Award

Purpose:


Established in 2017, The Spirit of Service Award  is an award given to an alum of Missouri Southern making significant contributions to their community through their time, actions, talents and dedication (outside any required volunteer work done for their employer).  The honoree selected should serve as a role model for compassion, and service and be striving to make the world a better place. They should have a passion for helping others in their community. Note: They do not have to live in or impact the Joplin or surrounding communities.

Process:


Candidates are any alum from Joplin Junior College, Missouri Southern State College or Missouri Southern State University with the exception of any paid staff member of MSSU or any member of the Awards committee.

Criteria:


Persons being nominated for this award should have consistently demonstrated qualities of compassion and service to either one organization or a variety of volunteer activities. The volunteer activities listed on the application cannot be part of the nominee’s job description or duties and the individual cannot receive any monetary or personal benefits from their involvement.

Please submit the required documents listed below to explain how your nominee meets the criteria for the specific award. Remember that the selection committee members will make their determinations based on the responsiveness, clarity and completeness of the nomination materials.

  • Please attach a letter of recommendation for this person and any additional documentation regarding voluntary hours of service to one or more projects or community service outlets.
