Established in 2017, The Outstanding Family Award at Missouri Southern is an award given out to a multiple generational family of Missouri Southern Lions by the Alumni Association. This award recognizes a family which has had an outstanding impact on or made outstanding contributions to Missouri Southern. The award will be given annually during Homecoming. Current students who are in a second or more generation of Joplin Junior College, Missouri Southern State College or Missouri Southern State University are able to nominate their family to be recognized.
Candidates are current students who nominate their family for consideration of receiving the Outstanding Family Award. Anyone who is a multi-generational family of Joplin Junior College, Missouri Southern State College or Missouri Southern State University are eligible. The Alumni Awards Committee, comprised of Alumni Board members, faculty and staff members, Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations, President and/or designee, will meet to review all nominations, and recommend recipients(s) to the MSSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
The nominee family must have had multiple generations (at least two) who have attended and graduated from Missouri Southern State University, with a current student attending MSSU. The nominated family must have had an outstanding impact on or must have made outstanding contributions to the University to be considered. The nominee must fill out the nomination form and provide a one-page essay about the family relationship with MSSU.
Applications received at the Ralph L. Gray Alumni Center prior to June 30 will be considered for the award.
