Geography Minor

About the Minor:

Geography is concerned with the spatial dimension of human experience, namely, space and place. As an integrative discipline, it brings together the physical and human dimensions of the world in the study of people, places and environments.  The subject of geography is the Earth's surface and the processes that shape it, as well as relationships between people and environments and connections between people and places.

What You'll Learn:

  • Students will demonstrate mastery of the differences among the key subfields in geography, i.e. human geography and physical geography.
  • Students will learn the regional geography of the world with an emphasis on the characteristic human and physical components of each region.
  • Students will engage in analysis of the implications of spatial interaction and movement patterns in human geography.
  • Students will demonstrate mastery of fundamental concepts in mapping.

This Minor is Great for You if:

  • You want to study challenges and problems from multiple points of view.
  • Want to teach geography or be involved surveying, city planning and urban design.
  • Want to work as a soil conservationist, park ranger, cartographer, geological assistant or GIS analyst.
