More than 300 students from area high schools attended the 2009 Southern Media Showcase. Schools represented included Aurora, Joplin, Webb City, McAuley, Southeast (KS), Sarcoxie, Diamond, Neosho, East Newton and Carl Junction. The keynote speaker was Noppadol Paothong, a 2002 Missouri Southern graduate who now is an award-winning staff photographer for the Missouri Department of Conservation. The day featured presentations of the videos that made it to the finals in the video competition. It also included presentation of awards to students winning honors in both video and print categories. Students in attendance also gathered for lunch. The 2010 Southern Media Showcase Day is scheduled for Thursday, November 4. Students currently working on video productions or school newspapers may submit materials for the annual competition. The timeframe for student entries runs from November 2009 through October 2010. Teachers interested in finding out more information about the competition may contact the contest coordinator, Ward Bryant at 417-625-9710. Southern Media Showcase is made possible by financial contributions, including a major sponsorship from the Ruth I. Kolpin Foundation. Other financial supporters include the Missouri Broadcasters Association, Missouri Press Association, Eagle Picher and the Missouri Southern Admissions office. |
